Specialist facilities for applied hydrogen research
Our dedicated Baglan Energy Park facility bridges laboratory research, technology development and pilot-scale demonstration.

Built for practical experimentation
The Centre combines permanent hydrogen infrastructure with flexible areas where partner equipment and experimental rigs can be installed, integrated and operated.

Facilities across the hydrogen value chain
Electrolysis facilities
Multi-technology equipment supports work on performance, efficiency, gas quality, controls, flexible operation and complete balance-of-plant behaviour, including a 100 kW AEM demonstration system. Smaller research platforms allow detailed investigation of stack and balance-of-plant behaviour before scale-up.

Purification, compression and high-pressure hydrogen
Facilities support conventional and electrochemical hydrogen conditioning, pressure increase, storage and dispensing, alongside research on valves, components and repeated operating cycles.
Analysis and component testing
Gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, moisture and oxygen measurement can be integrated with experimental rigs. Dedicated infrastructure also supports component development, cycling, hold and leak-testing activities.

Pilot systems, integration and safety
Partner technologies can be installed in dedicated areas and connected to hydrogen, utilities, instrumentation and analytical systems. Activities are supported by structured risk assessment, hazardous-area assessment, permit-to-work procedures and appropriate engineering controls. The Centre is physically separate from conventional teaching laboratories, allowing experimental systems to be managed as dedicated research plant.
