SOLCER

Smart Operation for a Low Carbon Energy Region (SOLCER)

This project will investigate ‘smart operation’ of energy supply, storage and demand systems in Wales. It will bring together all the LCRI research partners in a cross disciplinary approach, initially based on the technical outputs from each of the ongoing LCRI programmes, including SERC's hydrogen, fuel cell and anaerobic digestion research.

SERC will lead the energy storage work package, but will also have input to the supply, distribution and integration dissemination work packages. Our experimental focus for this project will include further development of hydrogen energy storage, hydrogen vehicle, biogas clean-up and solid oxide fuel cell testing facilities.

The outcome will be a series of case studies and guidance, built on experimental development,  for low carbon energy performance across a range of scales and geographic locations at building scale, urban scale, regional /grid scale and will include consideration of urban and rural areas, by investigating application at specific locations in Wales.
